Lionel Messi: American Dream
Messi, in his own words. A 2016 Sports Illustrated feature combining a portrait film, match photography and a first-person story about football and family.
01
A story with room to breathe.
A full-screen portrait introduces the feature before the page opens into a long read. Wide photographs, quotes and video break up the story, giving the text a rhythm beyond a traditional article.
02
On the pitch. Off the pitch.
The first-person story, as told to Grant Wahl, moves from Argentina’s trophy ambitions to Messi’s childhood and family. The recovered build preserves the original imagery and opening video.
